A Story ‘Bout Drugs
November 6, 2007
This is a story about why you should only do drugs in controlled atmospheres if you do drugs. The Vegoose festival was drug free until Mark Schmitz was caught trying to climb the fence. Schmitz tried to do this twice before staff personnel called UNLV police. This is when all the trouble started.
Officer Lovelady asked Schmitz to approach his patrol car so that he could perform a routine pedestrian stop. Schmitz threw a rock at the patrol car and began to walk away quickly. Lovelady then tackled Schmitz to the ground and told him he was under arrest. Schmitz resisted under the effort of three police officers. He even tried to get a hold of Lovelady’s gun before Lovelady used pepper spray on Schmitz.
Lovelady and other officers finally got Schmitz into the patrol car where he continued to yell and knocked out a window of the vehicle. After he was taken to St. Rose Hospital to be checked out he told nurses he had taken four hits of LSD.
Schmitz was charged with obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, and breach of peace. He will be attending college in Colorado during his court date.
Leave the illegal drugs at home.
